RIZ X SELECTIVE THREAD
We recently collaborated with Selective Thread, a bespoke t-shirt company, to come up with our take on a 'classic pocket tee'. The idea to utilise excess short fabric we had left over and also add our stamp on what a simple, sustainable t-shirt could be?
Our prioty has always been to be the best at one thing, a 'specialist'. Well that's shorts surely? However on being introduced to Selective Thread it became immediately apparent that we could do more with the shorts. I've often thought the soul of the shorts is in the fabric, the print, it holds the story. Adding this to simple, plain t-shirts gives them enough 'beach vibe' and still keeps them classic. With this idea we were sold!
The organic tee's were sourced from New Zealand and the pockets sewn on in Brighton, England. Due to the fact the print repeats are a lot larger than the pockets, it's meant that every pocket is unique. A nice touch. The challenge was to ensure with the Endangered Bee print we had a bee on all the pockets. Bespoke for sure.
When you manufacture a range there are always offcuts, excesses, over prints. Nothing is perfect. For this range we haven't actually used off cuts, instead excess fabric printed for the short range. It's not a lot but can go a long way in pockets. So recycled poylester ( sitting on the shelf ) that would have to have been recycled is infact upcycled and used for a rather charming purpose. Sunshine pockets!
